Creating Our Reality

My coaching clients want to deeply understand how creating our reality works. So I’ve got a little free gift for you at the end of this blog but first, let’s break some ideas down.

Our thoughts do not create our reality. Our emotions create our reality. And it’s important to understand there is a difference between our feelings and our emotions. Emotions are energy in motion – e-motion. Your feelings are separate from your emotions because your emotions are your actions from the state of feeling.

It starts with a thought – for most of us, it starts with a subconscious thought (a thought we may not even be aware we are having).

We have a thought, we form an opinion and that creates a feeling. Subconsciously there is an emotional state that gets formed from that feeling. This is all happening subconsciously (again, most of us are not in an expanded state of consciousness that this is happening).

Since we operate from this lower level of awareness (or a contracted state of awareness), we are living from this emotional state. That could be joy and excitement but it could also be annoyance, irritation, frustration, pissed off, sad, bothered, agitated, triggered, short, irritable, mad, angry, craving control, in disapproval – whatever it is – the list can go on.

The importance of understanding ego consciousness (AKA autopilot, subconscious), is that that is where the root of change is going to be. If the above is our subconscious programming, then we have to choose to practice expanding our awareness around what our subconscious programming is.

When we step into a state of expanded awareness, we are not living from a subconscious place anymore. Now we are living in a more conscious state. Some might describe that as a higher consciousness, or an elevated consciousness, others might say it’s an expansion of your consciousness – whatever phrasing works for you – the point is, you become aware of your thoughts, or aware of your conscious state.

It has been said that we can control our thoughts. In my experience, a thought pops up and what I resist, (try to control) persists. So if I don’t deal with a thought that disturbs my emotional state, that means that I haven’t processed it and that it still bothers me and perhaps I need to work through it. There is a reason that it is disturbing my inner peace.

So this is where the work is to be done around creating our reality. Can we emotionally regulate? Can we have feelings about something but not allow it to take over our emotional state?

You can disapprove of something or feel upset about something but when you act from that place of feeling, you’ve now stepped into the emotional state. This is the energy that creates our reality.

If we want to change our reality, this is where we have to do our work. Can you not be so attached to how you feel about something? I’m not saying bypass our feelings. But can you remain calm when you still feel upset or dealing with something that bothers you? Can you stay in a place of being grounded or emotionally stable? This is going to be what changing your reality is all about.

You can’t do any of this if you’re not living in a space of heightened awareness. If you’re never aware of the thoughts that you’re having or how you’re feeling about these thoughts, you’re not going to be able to make these changes. That’s why understanding ego work is so important because becoming aware of this chain reaction is life-changing.

It’s not about having peaceful, loving thoughts, living in love and light day in and day out – I mean yeah that sounds great – but that’s not really the goal.

The goal is to notice your thoughts, take note of if they disturb your inner peace – if they don’t, great! Let the momentum of joy begin! But we all have thoughts of, “I really don’t like that.” Using the contrast in life is going to help you navigate what you want and to use this practice to support you in staying connected to yourself. I’m not going to lose control of my emotions but I am going to start to make the changes that I want to see, for me. This is really what the goal is.

Are you in your autopilot/ ego consciousness or are you in your expanded consciousness?

Step 1: is to become aware of this thought
Step 2: how do you feel about this thought?
Step 3: is this thought going to affect your emotional state, thus creating the world you live in?

I have some awesome workshops coming out that will take you further on these 3 steps, creating the reality you want and understanding your ego.
