6 Ways to Achieve Your Goals in 2021

In a few weeks we will be entering a new year, a time where it’s common to hit reset on life and start again. Regardless of what you’re desiring for next year, I am sharing 6 ways you can achieve your goals.

1. Ask yourself and write down your answers, who do I want to be?

Oftentimes we focus on what we want to do but first start with getting clear on who you want to be. This does not mean that being yourself isn’t okay. Here are a few examples;

Do you want to be more disciplined around physical activity/exercise?
Do you want to be a person who makes better choices around food?
Do you want to be less reactive?
Do you want to be a better example for your children?

Get clear and write down your answers.

2. Ask yourself, what does that person do every day?

Write down your answers.
Take the description of the person you want to be and make a list of the kinds of things that person does daily. What are their habits?: It takes years to receive the benefits and it’s uncomfortable.

3.  Pick one of those habits to start with. Just one.

I can not stress this enough. Some of us get overly excited and want to do all the things at one time. Then we get overwhelmed and quit. Pick one and make that a daily promise to yourself to commit to that new habit.

Make sure, and this is important, that on a scale of 1 – 10, you feel at a 9 or 10 that you can stay committed to implementing that new habit for 2 weeks. If you feel less than a 9 or a 10, then shrink the goal down. Momentum is everything in the beginning.

4. Set a reminder.

Alarms are our friends. I am big on this tool. I use an alarm to prep me for bed and to go to bed. I encourage my weight loss clients to use alarms to track their food and to set alarms to trigger you to get up from your desk and walk, meditate or whatever it is for you.

5. Let go of how it looks.

Some days it will be ideal and some days it will be less than ideal. Who cares? The most important thing is that you showed up. If it didn’t look great, that’s okay, do better tomorrow, just keep your momentum.

6. Celebrate your wins and progress and forgive your slip-ups.

Most people tend to forget their progress and dwell on their slip-ups. This is why the practice of writing down your wins is so important. Use slip-ups as information to learn and opportunities to reset what doesn’t work. We are all human beings and slip-ups are part of the process.

It’s been 10 years since I’ve been in the health and wellness industry helping people live healthier lives. I started helping others where I started with myself; fitness. Then I earned my certificate in Health Coaching and focused on diet. In the midst of all this, I was having a quarter life crisis and what I call spiritual awakening and this brought me to integrate my emotional and spiritual self with the physical and mental.
