Celery

Summer is a great time to increase veggies. It’s hot and veggies hold water that has a cooling effect for our body. This month’s nutrition facts focus on celery. Eating celery is almost the same as chewing water and although your stomach will hardly notice, a cup is 16 calories, making it one of the lowest calorie counts of all foods. However, it’s still nutrient packed! 1 Cup will give you ⅓ of your daily vitamin K recommendations, as well as vitamin A. Celery is also loaded with fiber, folate and potassium. And due to phytochemicals, celery may relax tissue in artery walls to increase blood flow, thereby lowering blood pressure.

So grab some hummus or your favorite nut butter and enjoy celery as a healthy mid-day summer snack or cut up into chunks and add more crunch to your salad!
